GrinGo Standup is Buenos Aires’ only English language standup comedy show. Started in October of 2011, in less than eight months, it’s already caught the attention of BBC Travel, Time Out, Matador Network, Pagina 12, La Nacion, and The Argentina Independent. Every Tuesday at 9PM, Sociedad de Comedia at Café Rivas (Estados Unidos 302) opens its doors for just ARG$30 to an international crowd to share laughs and drinks.

As Virginia Woolf famously said, “Humor is the first of the gifts to perish in a foreign tongue,” and English speaking visitors come out to GrinGo for a big dose of what they’ve been missing while practicing Spanish abroad.

Our audiences are an eclectic group of people from all over the world and our comics work on acts that are relatable and hilarious to our international crowds.

Regular performers include Ana Carolina who started her career in New York City. Californian Francesca Fiorentini anchors and emcees the show, and regular performers rotate with frequency as English-speaking comics visiting the city take the mic as they pass through town.

Over 400,000 people will attend and compete in this 2 week competition. The global growth and influence of Tango has been so great that in December 2009 it was declared the Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial de la Humanidad (Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity) by UNESCO, the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization. Whether you are a dancer or simply a lover of tango, come to Buenos Aires and be a part of this spectacular event.

Thousands of dance couples will join in on this highly competitive and terrifically fun competition. They will all compete for the prestigious Dance World Cup title and trophy. The passion of this steamy dance is interpreted by several thousand choreographers, musicians and world class dancers who all share a love for this Argentinean tradition.

Not only is the festival aimed at giving a world title to the best tango dancers, the entire county of Argentina is made proud. The secondary goal of this festival and competition is to preserve the historical dignity of the dance as well as tango music. Sponsors have come from wide varieties, including major food distributors, abogado practices and primarily the city of Buenos Aires. Dancers are judged on originality, creativity and how they honor the traditions of tango and Argentinean flair.

The Buenos Aires Tango festival is truly a celebration of Argentine culture and traditions. With close to half a million people coming to Argentina from all over the world, the entire city of Buenos Aires gets set to open her arms to every visitor.

Over the years, many street festivals have taken up residence along the business districts surrounding the dance festival. Local vendors sell souvenirs, tasty cuisine and can hear authentic tango music played live in the streets. People can also take a break from the festival and stroll down the quiet and charming residential streets. Take in the beauty of the brightly colored houses, shops and restaurants as the wonderful aroma of authentic Argentinean cooking lingers in the air.

Gustovo Mozzi, Artistic Director of the Buenos Aires Tango Festival, is a highly celebrated musician, composer and teacher. Hailing from many of the most famous festivals in the world, such as Carnival in Venice, La Salle Pleyel in Paris and the De Doelen in Rotterdam, Mozzi brings his world class festival insight to his home country of Argentina. His music has been described as European techno and urban Folklore.

The working class section of Buenos Aires is the birthplace of this highly stylized dance. The influences are thought to be African, European and Cuban since it was these ethnicities that first seemed to pick up the dance. The name is thought to be from the African Congo while the beats and classic steps can be traced to Europe, Cuba and Africa.

The exact dates for the Buenos Aires Tango Festival 2012 are August 14th thru 28th and registration can be completed here.

We are very pleased to announce our next InterNations Get-Together in Buenos Aires: an After-Office Cocktail Party. This will be a great opportunity for you to meet your fellow InterNations members, grab a drink, a coffee or a bite to eat, and get to know each other a little better.

After serving as the InterNations Ambassador for Buenos Aires since May of 2008 and arranging and hosting all of our monthly events except 2 since July of 2008, I will be stepping down as ambassador and letting some new people take over. I have enjoyed my service these last 3 1/2+ years, but feel it is time to let some other people take a turn at leading the Buenos Aires InterNations group. I will still be residing in Buenos Aires and I think by now most of you know how and where to find me. All my contact information is on my profile here and set to be viewable by everyone, so do not hesitate to contact me if you ever need anything.

That being said, the very first event I ever hosted was at a restaurant named Freak, owned by an Argentine brother and sister. Today that restaurant has undergone a name change to Cruz Diablo along with a recent major remodel job. But the same couple, Nacho and Julietta are still there as owners along most of their staff. So I thought it appropriate that I end my tenure as host where it begin – with Nacho and Julieta at their lovely restaurant in Palermo Hollywood.

So for our December event we will be meeting at Cruz Diablo formerly known as Freak Restaurant in Palermo Hollywood. Recently remodelled, Cruz Diablo offers a wonderful and diverse menu to include regional favorites, international cuisine, classic and modern dishes.

As always, Cruz Diablo will be hooking us up with some great drink specials to include non-alcoholic beverages, beer, wine and a few select mixed drinks. They will also be giving us some great prices on their food items.

Event Date: Wednesday, December 22st from 8pm onwards.

Event Location: Cruz Diablo, formerly Freak Resto Event Address: Fitz Roy 1715 (Near the corner of Fitzroy & Honduras)

Questions: samuel@GoodMorningBA.com

Looking forward to seeing you there,

DATE: Thursday, November 17th
TIME: 8pm until 1am
LOCATION: Wasabi’s Sushi & Lounge (Palermo Viejo)
ADDRESS: Thames 1810 (near the corner of Costa Rica)

The weather is getting awesome and there is nothing like sushi and a nice outdoor courtyard in this kind of weather. This will be a great opportunity for you to be able to meet your fellow InterNations members, grab a drink, a coffee or a bite to eat, and get to know each other a little better and we are really excited to see all of you again.

Also, we will be arranging a special end of year/Christmas Get-Together in December so be sure to check back with InterNations to see all the details!

As many of you already know Wasabi’s is a chic sushi lounge that wows fickle travelers, expats and porteños with its snappy service and well-crafted raw fish arrangements. Wasabi’s is located in an understated locale in the heart of shiny, plastic Palermo Hollywood. It has relaxed “Chill Out” seating, colorful murals of typical Miami-circa-1996 decorating tropes as well as some new, more abstract additions.

Wasabi’s will be hooking us up with some great drink specials to include non-alcoholic beverages, beer, wine and a few select mixed drinks. They will also be giving us some great prices on their food items.

We hope you are all able to attend. Help us make InterNations your place for living and laughing in Buenos Aires.

Be sure to tell all your global minded friends to go to “www.internations.org” to join today!

Looking forward to seeing you there,

For many guests, it’ll be the first InterNations event; quite a few arrive on their own. Please be open to making them feel welcome. If you see someone standing alone, it’d be great if you introduced them to your friends. We can thus share the spirit of connecting global minds, and every member will have a lovely time. Thanks!

They are canopies, they cut organic figures in the urban landscape, they are at times figurative, at times bare and leafless, at times exuberant dashes of color, but they are ever present: the rosewood trees of Buenos Aires.

In her show, opening at the Jardín Botánico on November 21, 2011, Murch shows the personality of these trees in their urban landscapes with a dozen large scale digital prints. The Tipa trees are native to the north of Argentina and their prevalence here in Buenos Aires is largely attributable to French landscape architect Carlos Thays. Their strange, irregularly shaped branches are the trees’ organic response to a local spittle bug; the gnarled way they grow is unique to Argentina.

Murch’s photographs express joy, solitude, and serenity in the urban landscape. The trees’ character is highlighted through Murch’s careful curation of years’ worth of photographs reflecting her fascination with these Tipas Porteñas.

The Long Night of Museums or the Night of Museums is a cultural event organized together by multiple museums and cultural institutions in a location during which the establishments remain open late into the night. Marketed together, the event seeks to introduce new individuals to the cultural institutions. A common entrance pass allows visitors to access all exhibits, as well as to access the public transportation required to reach these various locations.

The first Long Night of Museums took place in Berlin in 1997. The concept has been very well received, and since then the number of participating institutions and exhibitions has risen dramatically, spreading to over 120 other cities throughout Europe. The idea has been taken by others cities outside Europe such as here in Buenos Aires in Argentina, whose “La Noche de los Museos” (Night of Museums) has taken place since 2004.

During this special night visitors will be able to enjoy free guided visits, special exhibitions, as well as conferences, shows, theater performances, dance, screenings, video, multimedia, and diverse concerts of classical music, jazz, tango, folk, and rock.

In this new edition, the Museum Nights celebrates the designation of Buenos Aires by UNESCO as World Capital of the Book 2011 with 174 museums and cultural centers opening their doors in 27 neighborhoods of the city, setting a new record number of participating institutions.

For more information and complete program, visit La Noche de los Museos official website (site in Spanish only) and you can also find a list of participating institutions and events there as well.
